The First Deputy High Representative in the Inaugural Visit to the CBBH

The Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) Senad Softić, Ph.D. has met today with the First Deputy High Representative and Supervisor for the Brčko District, Mr. Bruce G. Berton in the inaugural visit, in Sarajevo.

In discussion with Governor Softić, Mr. Berton has expressed the full support of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) to the work of the CBBH and stressed the importance of respecting the independence of the CBBH which, among other things, influences its success.

With the gratitude for the support of the international community to the CBBH, Governor Softić presented the basic economic indicators to Mr. Berton, according to which, a slow economic growth is expected in BH this year. As positive indicators, the Governor pointed out also the monetary stability, as one of preconditions for the economic development, as well as the growth of foreign currency reserves. Two biggest issues of BH economy are high level of external debt and high rate of unemployment.

Regarding the activities of the CBBH, Governor Softić has said that the Strategic Plan of the CBBH activities, which will include the strategic objectives, will be adopted by the end of the year. The main goal of the CBBH is to maintain the monetary stability under the currency board arrangement.
