CBBH on Improvement in Banking Supervision

5/11/2007

The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) wishes to explain the existing activities regarding the improvement in banking supervision in order to avoid misunderstanding and any possible disagreement between the existing coordination in this domain and the final solution. The CBBH is interested in improvement in banking supervision and in that respect it is performing consultations with experts from international financial institutions. Recent CBBH activities have been directed towards the improvement of the existing model of the banking supervision until the final decision on the state-level supervision is reached. The CBBH wishes to stress that the realization of the Eurosystem’s CBBH Needs Assessment Program is underway and, as a part of that program, Eurosystem experts will, among other things, also perform the analysis of the banking supervision. The purpose of this analysis is improvement of the CBBH activities in the domain of coordination of the banking supervision with the Banking Agencies from both Entities. However, the Eurosystem experts are yet to commence the analysis of the existing banking supervision coordination in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in that respect they have not defined any suggestions or recommendations. For the extended period of time, the CBBH has pointed out the need to establish the banking supervision in accordance with the international standards and it is ready to discuss various supervision models. At the same time, the CBBH wishes to improve the level of its activities while waiting for the final solution. Public Relations Section Coordinator Zijada Kovač
