Acting Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury Department, Anna Morris visits the CBBH

Today, on March 6, 2024, Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), Jasmina Selimović, Ph.D. together with her associates, met with the delegation of the United States of America (USA) Treasury Department lead by Acting Assistant Secretary, Anna Morris.

The Governor pointed to the significance of the CBBH current and future activities, and in particular, she highlighted the positive financial results achieved by the CBBH thanks to the timely and extremely successful restructuring of the portfolio of foreign exchange reserves in accordance with policy changes in the euro area.

Governor Selimović emphasized the importance of adopting the Law on Prevention of Money Laundering as a key step in bringing Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the standards and practices of the European Union (EU), which is essential for the opening of negotiations with the EU. This Law represents the foundation for strengthening the legal and institutional infrastructure in the fight against financial crime and corruption, which is recognized as a priority in the process of European integration.

The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange opinions on the current economic situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the impact of global economic trends on the local economy. The possibilities of further strengthening of cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States of America in the area of finance and banking were discussed, with a special focus on the support to projects promoting transparency, responsibility and efficiency in managing public finance.

Anna Morris, Acting Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury Department expressed her pleasure due to the progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina in key reform areas and confirmed the support of the United States of America to the efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path towards European integration. She stressed the importance of continuing reforms in financial sector, particularly in respect of strengthening institutional capacities for struggling money laundering and terrorism financing.

This meeting represents a continuous support and cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States of America, and stresses joint commitment to the strengthening of economic stability and integrity of the financial system.
