Chairman of BiH Presidency Dr Denis Bećirović visited CBBH

Chairman of BiH Presidency Dr Denis Bećirović with his associates visited the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH). In the discussion with the CBBH Governor Jasmina Selimović, Ph.D., members of the CBBH Governing Board and the Management, he presented full support to the work of the Central Bank. The CBBH is the first institution that Dr Bećirović visited since assuming the post of Chairman of the BiH Presidency.

Governor Selimović presented the positive business results of the CBBH, stressing that a significant part of the profit achieved in 2023 is intended for transfer to the Budget of Bosnia and Herzegovina institutions.

During the conversation, the activities and achievements of the CBBH were illustrated, along with the focus on continuous effort in the fulfilment of its legal mandate and the implementation of strategic goals. The successful maintenance of monetary and financial stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the efficient arrangement of the currency board, was particularly highlighted.

"When it comes to my position in reference to the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I will support its current status of independence from external influences, primarily from Entities' efforts to borrow money, or withdraw money from this institution in any way. It must remain independent, autonomous and efficient in order to implement its legal obligations and duties," said the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Dr Denis Bećirović.

It was jointly assessed that the CBBH must remain independent in its operations and continue to protect the stability of the domestic currency in the best interest of all citizens and the economy of our country.

"If the economy and budget positions need to be stimulated, then it should be done on the fiscal side through the reform of the tax system in terms of modern legal solutions, more efficient tax collection and more adequate controls, and not to encroach on the sound part of the system to which the Central Bank of BH belongs," it was concluded during the meeting.

Chairman of the BiH Presidency Dr Denis Bećirović wished the Governor, the members of the Governing Board, the Management and all employees of the CBBH a lot of success in their future work, stressing his belief in continuous cooperation and joint work to further strengthen the economic stability and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
