The Global Money Week was marked by joint activities of the CBBH and DIA BiH

With a debate of high school students from Bosnia and Herzegovina and visits by elementary school students, the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Deposit Insurance Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina marked Global Money Week, which this year, under the slogan "Save your money - protect your future" was celebrated from March 18 to 22.

The final debate, whose thesis was "Internet banking will completely replace bank branches", was held in Sarajevo on March 22, 2024, and the jury, featuring the representatives of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Deposit Insurance Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced the winners of the debate team of Public Institution (PI) Third Gymnasium from Sarajevo. In the final, they defeated the debate team of the Public Institution High School of Economics from Brčko. The best debater was declared Ana Ljubišić, a member of the debate team of Public Institution Banja Luka Gymnasium.

Both final teams, one of which was affirmative and the other negative one, but also all the other teams that participated in the debate competition, showed extraordinary preparation and knowledge in the field of finance, maturity of their thinking and accurate implementation according to the positions of the arguing team.

For the first time, students from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina were included in the celebration of the Global Money Week and the debate competition. Thus, the debate competition featured high school students from the PI Third Gymnasium of Sarajevo, the First Bosniak Gymnasium of Sarajevo, High School of Economics Jozo Martinović from Mostar, Gymnasium Rev. Grga Martić from Mostar, PI Gymansium from Banja Luka, PI Gymansium Banja Luka, PI High School of Economics from Banja Luka, PI Mixed High School from Čelić and PI High School of Economics from Brčko.

„The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina is proud of the fact that every year, an increasing number of schools is included, at their own initiative, in the conducted financial education. We are happy that this year, in cooperation with the Deposit Insurance Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we have included more schools from the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The young people's wish to acquire knowledge, which they have shown today, is an additional motive for us to continue financial education which is an important segment of general education and increase of financial inclusion and stability of each individual and community, as only a financially educated person can make proper financial decisions and thus contribute to the financial stability of their community“, said Vice Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ernadina Bajrović, M.A., speaking to the participants of the discussion.

„We are very proud that we can be a part of this successful competition of high school students! It is incredible that people so young are involved in important subjects in financial field, mastering them, I would say, even better than some experts. The future indeed belongs to the young, and we should all support them in their progress fully and without reserves, Director of Deposit Insurance Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo Branch, Alma Kešo said.

Within the marking of the Global Money Week, visits of elementary school pupils to the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina were organised in Sarajevo, Mostar, Banja Luka and Brčko, and presentations called “A small school of money“ were held.

This year's Global Money Week was organised with the support of G20 chaired by Brazil, within the project of financial education and inclusion supported by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
