Data on Card Transactions in 2024 3/12/2025 Tweet The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) published the annual report on card transactions in BH in 2024. At the end of 2024, the total number of active cards was 2,585,419 and it was higher by 131,069 compared to 2023. Cards to customers were issued by 21 banks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The market is dominated by debit cards, with the share of 83.37% and a strong growth trend. The value of card transactions is increasing, amounting to KM 18,425,493,564 in 2024, which is a growth by 13.76% compared to the previous year. The continuing growth of the value of card transactions is evident year after year. The total number of card transactions was 186,045,013 with obvious growth trend. The average value of a transaction was KM 99 and it was lower by KM 3 compared to 2023, while the average annual turnover per card amounted to KM 7,127, and was higher by KM 524 compared to 2023. An increase in card transactions at ATMs, POS and in the internet was recorded. Of the total value of card transactions, 68% was performed at ATMs, 28% through POS, while 4% was done through the internet. The percentage of realized card transactions on the internet in the country was 36%, and abroad 64% of the total card transactions on the internet. The realized value abroad with cards issued by BH banks increased by 34.34% in 2024 compared to 2023, and amounts to KM 1,007,781,923. In the structure of transactions, cash withdrawals at ATMs and POS account for 31%, while the share related to the purchase of goods and services at POS is 69%. Compared to 2023, the realized value of foreign cards in BH increased in banks and shops by 11.41%, and amounts to KM 3,740,983,232. In the structure of transactions, cash withdrawals at ATMs and POS account for 54%, while the share of purchases of goods and services at POS is 46%. Banks are constantly working on introducing a larger number of ATMs and/or POS into their supply. In the past year, a total of 1,767 ATMs and 35,035 POS were installed.
