Ambassador Butler visited the CBBH

5/24/2006

The Principal Deputy High Representative, Larry Butler, today visited the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) where he had talks with Governor Kemal Kozarić, and Vice Governors Feriha Imamović, Anka Musa and M.Sc. Ljubiša Vladušić.

Ambassador Butler congratulated Governor Kozarić for the convincing and effective arguments, creating a more positive view of BH’s financial standing and long-term economic prospects in the international financial circles.

He stressed that Governor Kozarić’s efforts had played an important role in the recent Decision by Moody’s Investor Service, international rating agency, to upgrade Bosnia and Herzegovina’s credit rating from B3 to B2.

The OHR and CBBH officials also discussed the need to establish the banking supervision at the state level. This reform, which is a European Partnership requirement, will further protect BH depositors, and, by increasing banking security will help to encourage investment and create jobs.

The conclusion has been made that it is necessary that the OHR representatives in BH, CBBH and Ministries of Finances of BH, RS and FBH jointly to take more concrete steps in establishment of more adequate banking supervision model and in defining of this reform dynamics.

According to the estimate of the OHR and CBBH officials, the most efficient and the fastest establishment of the banking supervision would be in the CBBH.
