CBBH implemented cooperation within the Programme to support central banks from the Western Balkans

The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) successfully implemented cooperation with the European Union (EU) within the Programme to support central banks from the Western Balkans.

Together with 19 national central banks of the EU, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Commission, the Deutsche Bundesbank marked the completion of a three-year long EU IPA III-funded programme in the value of EUR 3 million. The aim of the programme was to further strengthen the institutional capacities of central banks and supervisory agencies by enhancing their analytical and policy tools with the focus on the integration into the European System of Central Banks (ESCB).

During the closing meeting of the programme, Mr Burkhard Balz, Member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank, pointed out: “The close cooperation between the ESCB, the ECB, the European Commission and our partners in the Western Balkans has not only advanced their alignment with European and international standards, but has also fostered a culture of trust and openness.”

 Mr Vasyl Zubaka, representative of the European Commission said: “The programme represents an important contribution to improving economic governance in the Western Balkans. Strong and independent central banks are key pillars of stability, trust and sustainable growth in the region.”

In addition to the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), the Banking Agency of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Banking Agency of Republika Srpska also participated in the programme. During the programme, the CBBH participated in all project activities and exchange of knowledge in key areas of central banking with focus on improving of governance policies, money laundering prevention, payment systems, financial stability, statistics, digitalisation, international and European relations.
