CBBH publishes instructions: Where and how to replace withdrawn banknotes after December 31, 2025 12/12/2025 Tweet The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) reminds citizens on the deadlines and conditions for replacing the convertible mark banknotes in denominations of 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM issued in the period 1998–2009, which were withdrawn from circulation and ceased to be legal tender on December 31, 2024. Until the end of the current year, ending on December 31, 2025, the replacement is carried out in commercial banks of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Given the wide availability of commercial bank branches, we invite citizens and legal persons to replace banknotes withdrawn from circulation by the end of 2025. Replacement of banknotes withdrawn from circulation starts as of January 1, 2026. From January 1, 2026 until December 31, 2035, the replacement will be carried out by the CBBH, in accordance with the Decision on the Proceeding for the Replacement of Out-of-Circulation KM Banknotes (Official Gazette of BH, 73/25). The replacement shall be carried out every working day from 10:00 to 14:00, at two locations: Sarajevo, Maršala Tita 25 – Cash Management Department of the Head Office; Banja Luka, Vidovdanska 19 – Cash Management Department of the CBBH Main Bank of Republika Srpska; Any natural or legal person who owns out-of-circulation KM banknotes may submit an application for the replacement. The Central Bank shall replace out-of-circulation KM banknotes in denominations of 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM, which are whole, authentic, with no signs of damage or discoloration. Depending on the value of the banknotes submitted for replacement, whether in a single or multiple replacements, the following procedure will be adhered to: • For amounts less than KM 5,000, the applicant is required to prove own identity, which is done by presenting an official identification document; • For amounts worth KM 5,000 or more, the applicant is required to submit, along with the banknotes, "An Application Form for Replacement of Out-of-Circulation KM Banknotes" (Form 1-Z), which will be available on the Central Bank's website or at the location where the replacement will take place. For amounts of KM 20,000 or more, along with the form, a notification of arrival at least 48 hours in advance is requiredvia e-mail: [email protected] (for the replacement in Sarajevo), [email protected] (for replacement in Banja Luka). In the process of replacement out-of-circulation banknotes, the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina collects data from the applicant in accordance with the Decision on the Proceeding for the Replacement of Out-of-Circulation KM Banknotes. The replacement is usually carried out on the same day in one appointment, except for amounts of out-of-circulation KM banknotes worth KM 20,000.00 or more, and/or to determine whether the conditions for replacing the out-of-circulation KM banknotes have been met. In such cases, the Central Bank determines whether the conditions for exchanging out-of-circulation KM banknotes have been met within 60 (sixty) days from the date of receipt and retention of the banknotes. The Central Bank will replace out-of-circulation KM banknotes only if the following conditions are cumulatively met: a) it has been established through the authenticity check that the out-of-circulation KM banknotes are authentic; b) it has been established that the applicant has submitted all complete information and made the statements about the origin of the cash plausible. After the replacement has been completed, the applicant will be issued a Payment Certificate, which serves as evidence on the replacement of out-of-circulation banknotes, and cannot be used as evidence of the origin of the money.
