Presentation of the annual results of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the media

On 23 December 2025, the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) held its Annual Meeting with the Media, during which the results of its work and key achievements in 2025 were presented, with an open and constructive dialogue with representatives of the media.

On that occasion, it was emphasised that the mission of the CBBH – preserving monetary and financial stability by issuing the domestic currency according to the currency board arrangement– remains the basis of its activities. The strategic priorities of the CBBH stay focused on monetary and financial stability, modernisation and digitalisation of business processes, human resources management, and international relations and social engagement.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jasmina Selimović, Ph.D. pointed out that the year 2025, despite strong global and geopolitical challenges, was marked by stable and solid results, as well as further strengthening of the institutional resilience and international position of the CBBH.

Speaking about financial indicators, Governor Selimović stated that the foreign exchange reserves of the CBBH amounted to KM 18.28 billion on 30 November 2025, which is an increase of KM 643 million compared to the same period of the previous year. Net foreign assets on the same date amounted to KM 1.65 billion, which is higher by KM 283 million than in 2024.

During 2025, a significant increase of the currency board coverage ratio was also recorded, which was 109.9% on 30 November 2025. Monetary gold reserves have increased to the highest level since the establishment of the CBBH amounting to 3.5 tons, while the value of gold on the same date amounted to KM 799 million.

As of 30 November 2025, the CBBH recorded net profit amounted to KM 289.77 million, which exceeded the planned amount for 2025 of KM 276 million. Net interest income amounted to KM 320 million, while the Bank's capital and reserves reached KM 1.72 billion on 30 November 2025, which is higher by KM 528 million than in 2024.

As part of the strategic direction of modernisation and digitalisation, the CBBH continued its activities on the payment systems improvement, including intensive work on preparations for accessing the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), as well as further integration of TIPS solutions for instant payments. Special attention was also paid to the process of withdrawing older issues of banknotes from circulation and the modernisation of convertible mark banknotes, with the application of modern security and environmental standards.

During 2025, the CBBH significantly intensified its activities in the field of cyber resilience and security, through cooperation with the European Central Bank within the Cyber Resilience, Cyber Security and Payment Systems Oversight project, participation in the EU IPA project "Cyber Balkans" (2023–2026), and the implementation of a project with the United Kingdom aimed at assessing cyber maturity and strengthening the Bank's IT function. The CBBH has also become a regular member of the European Central Bank's OSSAT platform, which has further improved banking coordination in the financial system.

With the aim to modernise internal operations, a digital signature was introduced into the business processes of the CBBH, an in-house application based on the application of artificial intelligence was developed, and the improvement of analytics and reporting continued in accordance with the requirements of the European Union.

Speaking about international cooperation and European integration, Governor Selimović pointed out that the CBBH has further strengthened its international position by meeting with a high number of ambassadors and representatives of international institutions, as well as through active participation and presence at numerous international and domestic conferences, forums and professional gatherings. Intensification of activities in the process of accession to the European Union was particularly stressed.

During the year, strong cooperation was also realized with international partners, including IFC (World Bank Group) through projects of the development of digital financial services and strengthening financial infrastructure, the Swiss SECO technical cooperation program (2025–2028) with a focus on cybersecurity, risk management, human resources and SEPA payment systems, and the International Monetary Fund, within which technical assistance in the field of governance was completed, and new activities planned in the fields of communications, required reserves, cyber security and operational risks. With the World Bank, technical assistance for the modernisation of payment systems and the development of QR codes for instant payments continued, while cooperation with the central banks of the European Union, including the National Bank of Croatia and the Austrian Central Bank, was further developed in the areas of SEPA integration and strengthening of the research function.

Throughout 2025, the CBBH hosted numerous international conferences and events, including the TAG Conference dedicated to banknote processing and security, regional and international events in the field of finance, as well as initiatives aimed at advancing financial inclusion and gender equality. The programme "Women on Boards in the Financial Sector – BH", WE Finance Code – support for women entrepreneurs, as well as the establishment of an analytical dashboard for monitoring relevant indicators particularly stand out.

In the financial education field, the CBBH worked intensively in 2025 to increase financial literacy, with a special focus on young people and educational institutions. A high number of educational visits, interactive workshops and lectures were organised, the World Savings Day and the Global Money Week were marked, and more than 2,300 pupils and students visited the CBBH. The activities were also implemented through the work of the Committee on Financial Education and Inclusion of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the strengthening of cooperation with the OECD/INFE network.

A special focus in 2025 was also placed on sustainability and ESG principles. The CBBH continued to invest in green bonds, it applied green approach in the production of banknotes and numismatics, modernised IT infrastructure, rationalised printing systems, improved virtual platforms, and ensured environmental-friendly disposal of electronic waste. By the digitalisation of HR processes, the volume of printed material has been further reduced, while employees are involved in the activities of raising the ESG awareness, including the celebration of the Earth Day through the afforesting of the Igman mountain and the International Environment Day.

At the end of the meeting, Governor Selimović said that the CBBH remains strongly committed to preserving stability, modernisation and the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while continuing open communication and cooperation with the media and the general public.
