Balance of Payments for Q3 of 2004

The current account deficit of the Balance of Payments of BH for the period from June 2004 until September 2004 is KM 1, 006 billion and it has practically remained at the same level as it was during the same period of 2003 and the previous quarter of 2004.

Just like before, this deficit was caused by the negative balance of goods exchange (KM 1, 95 billion), but at the same time, the largest value of exports so far was recorded in the amount of KM 856 million.

The slight surplus was recorded at the services account in the current account of BH (KM 140 million), which comes as the result of the increased inflow from tourism and communication services, which has lessened usually large outflow on the basis of travels abroad of BH citizens during summer months.

Observed period is also characterized by the increase of the withdrawals of the foreign credits by the Government amounting to KM 128, 7 million, so, together with the commercial banks, total foreign indebting was KM 223, 2 million. Direct Foreign Investments in the amount of KM 175, 1 million have also helped financing of the current account deficit.

Despite the a.m. deficit of the current account, the increase in level foreign reserves of the Central Bank of BH (CBBH) was recorded, which, over this period, have grown by KM 241, 7 million.
