The Number and Value of RTGS and Giro-Clearing Transactions in 2003

The number of RTGS and giro-clearing transactions increased by 14, 13 percent, while their value increased by 8, 14 percent in 2003 compared to 2002.

Over the period from January 1 until December 31, 2003, a total of 17.721.251 transactions were carried out in the RTGS (urgent transactions and transactions larger than KM 20.000) and giro clearing (transactions with smaller amounts). The total value of transactions was KM 24, 3 billion.

During 2003, ten banks accounted for 69 percent of all transactions in RTGS and giro clearing, which is 63 percent of the total value of all transactions.

At the beginning of its functioning, in 2001, 40 commercial banks were members of the payments system. In the meantime, seven new banks became the members of the payments system, while 12 banks were excluded from the payments system, so now there are 35 banks in the payments system.

Since the January 5, 2001, which is the date when it commenced its operations, the BH payments system functioned without interruptions in its work and it showed the great level of reliability.
