The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina wishes to inform that the new 50 KM and 100 KM banknotes, which were printed in March this year in France, have two safety features which separates them from previous banknotes.

One of them is the year of printing "2002", which was printed below the word "Governor" on banknotes' front side.

Imprinted standard security thread, which is 1, 00 mm wide, is not florescent and it does not have the "CBBH" mark, unlike the previous 50 KM and 100 KM banknotes.

The Central Bank of BH is warning citizens to pay attention to these security elements. If it is the new 50 KM and/or 100 KM banknote, both A.M. security elements have to be present.

New volumes of 50 KM and 100 KM banknotes in both versions were printed by the French Company "Francois-Charles Oberthur", which is the same company which printed all previous denominations of KM: 0, 50 KM, 1 KM, 5 KM, 10 KM, 20 KM, 50 KM and 100 KM. In order to satisfy increased demand for larger denominations of KM banknotes, volumes containing three million pieces of KM 50 banknotes and three million pieces of 100 KM banknotes were printed. This is the first additional printing of Convertible Marks since the BH currency was released in circulation in June 1998, However, as the CBBH Governor Peter Nicholl stressed, additional printing of the KM will not have inflationary effect, since no KM banknote will be put into circulation without the strict adhering to the Currency Board Arrangement principle, which means that each issued KM will have backing in foreign convertible currency by the fixed exchange rate of KM 1 = euro 0, 51129.
