Deadline for Taking Over DEM Coins Expires on January 31

Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina reminded the commercial banks in Bosnia and Herzegovina last week that the deadline for taking over of the German Marks (DEM) coins will expire on January 31, 2001.

Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina points out once again that taking over and transfer of German Marks (DEM) coins in the country of origin is not the obligation of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Commercial banks can do this job now as well as after January 31,2001 when the deadline for taking over and transfer of the German Marks coins by Central Bank of BH will expire.

German Mark (DEM) will be in use in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the accord with the Law on the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina until January 1, 2002, when the Bosnian-Herzegovina currency - Convertible Mark (BAM) will be directly connected to EURO, that will be use in all countries of Eurozone.

From January 1, 1999 until now Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina has taken over 13.752.280,00 DEM coins, which were in use in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
