Peter Nicholl Attended Extraordinary General Meeting of the Bank for International Settlements

11/11/1999

The Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia & Herzegovina, (CBBH) Mr. Peter Nicholl, attended an extraordinary general meeting of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basle Switzerland on Monday the 8th of November. The meeting agreed to three amendments to the BIS's articles of Association.
There was also a meeting of the BIS Central Bank Governors at which the performance of rating agencies was discussed. This meeting was also informed that the Governors from the G7 countries were optimistic about economic prospects. They expected a combination of strong growth in the US, without inflationary pressures, and a modest increase in growth in Europe, Asia and some countries in Latin America.
The BIS Board also decided to invite five more central banks to become members: The European Central Bank (ECB), and the central banks of Indonesia, Thailand, Malysia and Argentina.
The CBBH became a member of the BIS in December 1997. The BIS is essentially the "Central Bank" national central banks. The CBBH currently holds about 30% of its foreign currency reserves with the BIS.
