Changes of Securities Marks on KM Banknotes in Denominations of KM 50 and 100

4/26/2007

The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) would like to inform the citizens that, since 1 May 2007, it will put in circulation the new issues of banknotes of KM 50 and KM 100.

These issues have certain differences in comparison to previous issues of the same denominations, which were issued on 1998 and 2002. The first difference is year of printing and the signature of Governor. Namely, signature of Governor Kemal Kozarić is on new banknotes of KM 50 and KM 100. As a year of printing, 2007 appears which is on the front side of the banknote under the signature and the word GOVERNOR.

Other changes are related to security features of banknotes. The watermark, as it was on the previous issues of banknotes, consists of stylized initials of the CBBH in the vertical line, while these new issues have just two initials alternating in Latin and Cyrillic letters, four in total, without partial initials on the top and bottom of the banknote, as it was the case in previous issues from 1998 and 2002.

The security thread of banknotes, which was completely incorporated in paper tissue of previous issues, appears alternatively in the surface of this new issue (window thread). When the banknote is seen under the light, the thread is seen completely and contains the CBBH text, in alternation of Latin and Cyrillic letters.

On the front side of banknotes, instead of hidden mark of denomination in grey colour, there is an optically changeable element in appropriate colour for both denominations. Pending on angle of watching, within the element, we can observe one or more denominations marks, number 50 or 100.

All changes are related exclusively on the front side of banknotes, and changes are identically for design of banknotes of Federation BH and banknotes from RS. In total five million pieces of both KM 50 and 100 banknotes are printed.

The CBBH informs the citizens that KM 50 and 100 banknotes from 1998 and 2002 stay in circulation, i.e., these banknotes, too, remain to be the legal tender.

New additional printing of banknotes have no inflation effect, because none KM note will be put in circulation without meeting the requirements of Currency Board arrangement, meaning, each issued Convertible Mark will have coverage in foreign currency at the fixed exchange rate.
