Foreign Direct Investments Amounted to KM 1.42 Billion in 2008

According to completed statistic data of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), inflow of foreign direct investments in 2008 amounted to KM 1.42 billion, which, after the record amount from 2007, has been the second largest annual amount, so far.

In spite of the beginning of the global economic crises, in 2008, BH succeeded to realize relatively high inflows of foreign direct investments, reaching up to 5.7% of the GDP. The highest inflow of investments came from Austria (21.3%), Slovenia (18.5%), Russia (15.8%), then Croatia and Serbia.

Regarding distribution based on scope of operations, 44% were invested in industry branches, 32% in financial sector (mostly banks), and 11% in trade of all investments in 2008. This year is characterized by significant share of investments in the industry branches, comparing with previous period, when financial sector and telecommunications dominated. 

As a result of new inflow, total balance of the foreign direct investments by the end of 2008 increased to KM 10.28 billion.
