The Evident Decrease Of Counterfeited Money In 2010

According to the data of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), which performs expertise, i.e. the  authentication of banknotes and coins, in the first six months of this year, a number of counterfeited banknotes and coins decreased by 55% compared to the same period last year. As for the KM banknotes, the decline is 31.3%, with  KM coins it is 49.6%, and with EURO banknotes  this decrease is 88.2%.

There are 2,301 counterfeited banknotes and coins registered in total. In the total number of counterfeited money, there are 1,092 pieces of counterfeited KM banknotes, 958 pieces of KM coins, 185 pieces of EURO banknotes and 66 pieces of other currencies banknotes.

As for the KM banknotes, the most counterfeited denomination is KM 50 (515 pieces recorded), and then KM 20 denomination (421 pieces). Speaking of counterfeited coins, leading denomination is KM 1 (555 pieces), then comes KM 5 denomination (295 pieces), and KM 2 denomination (108 pieces).

Given the EURO banknotes, the most represented denomination is EURO 100 (105 counterfeited pieces recorded). Of 66 counterfeited banknotes of other currencies, 65 are in denomination of USD 100.

If citizens suspect that they have counterfeited banknote or coin, they can hand it over to the services of Ministry of Interior Affairs, with information when and where they have received counterfeit, in case they know that. The Ministries of Interior Affairs and commercial banks submit suspicious banknotes to the CBBH, which performs the expertise.
