Foreign Currency Reserves Significantly Increased

9/3/2010

The total foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) as of August 31, 2010, amounted to KM 6.37 billion (counter value of EUR 3.26 billion or US$ 4.14. billion). Compared to the balance as of December 31, 2009, the total foreign curerncy reserves have increased by KM 160 billion.

Increased economic activity mostly contributed to the foreign currency reserves growth. The exports growth of 23.2% was recorded  in July 2010, when compared to the same month of 2009, and imports growth of 13.2%. Also, in the first seven months of 2001 compared to the same period of the last year, exports recorded a growth of 30.7% and imports growth of 5.8%.

The foreign reserves' growth was also influenced by the tourist season, as well as by a large number of our citizens from abroad visiting BH in the summer time.

The foreign currency reserves currently cover 5.7 months of annual imports into BH.  We project the further slight growth and stability of foreign reserves also in the upcoming period.
