The World Savings Day Is Marked By Strengthening Of the Confidence Of Citizens

The World Savings Day, which will be marked on 31 October, this year is marked by further strengthening of citizens  confidence  in the banking sector.

According to the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) data, the total deposits of domestic institutional sectors in the commercial banks amounted KM 12.49 billion at the end of September, 2010, and they increased by around KM 520 million or 4.3% compared to the same period of the last year.

Out of these, deposits of BH households amount to KM 6.16 billion or 49.3% of total deposits, and they increased by around KM 750 million or 13.8% compared to the same month of the last year.

Out of total amount of the household's deposits, demand deposits make for KM 2.37 billion or 38.5%, and savings and term deposits amount to KM 3.79 billion or 61.5%.

As for the currency structure, KM 1.97 billion or 31.9% are local currency deposits, KM 3.78 billion or 61.4% are EURO deposits and KM 410 million or 0.7% are in other foreign currency deposits.

Positive trends in savings are the results of the confidence return in the banking sector and its stability, which was disrupted due to the impact of global crisis. Also, it is a result of the insured deposits scheme, which main goal is increasing of the banking sector stability  and the protection of depositors.
