In 2022 direct foreign investments in BH amount to KM 1.44 billion

The inflow of direct foreign investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2022 amounted to KM 1.44 billion, which is the highest amount recorded so far, according to data from the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), which published the results of a statistical survey on direct foreign investments for 2022.

These record flows of direct investments in 2022 are by KM 310 million, i.e., by 21% higher than in 2021, when they amounted to KM 1.13 billion. Most of this growth in foreign direct investments is a consequence of high reinvested earnings of existing non-financial and financial companies with foreign investments, while investments in the form of equity capital and other capital (intercompany lending) amounted to a total of KM 500 million.

In terms of geographical distribution, the largest inflow of investments in 2022 was from Great Britain (KM 271.8 million), followed by Austria (KM 175.8 million), the Netherlands (KM 166.6 million), Germany (KM 159, 5 million) and Serbia (KM 134.4 million).

Observed by activities, the most investments were realized in the area of production and supply of electricity in the amount of KM 199.9 million, then in the area of financial services in the amount of KM 146.8 million, and in the area of base metals production of KM 122.9 million.

At the end of 2022, the state of direct foreign investments amounted to KM 17.45 billion, and this amount represents the result of investments and business results of foreign-owned companies in previous years. The largest balance amount of direct investments still refers to Austria (KM 2.69 billion or 15.4% of the total investment balance), Croatia (KM 2.54 billion or 14.6%) and Serbia (KM 2.43 billion or 13 .9%).

Observed by activities, the highest balance of direct foreign investments was recorded in the area of financial services (KM 3.42 billion), and it was related to investment in the banking system, then in the area of telecommunications (KM 1.75 billion) and wholesale trade (KM 1. 68 billion), which means that almost 40% of the investments balance refers to these three areas.

In accordance with the revision policy and on the basis of additional data collected in this year's research, along with the publication of data for 2022, data revisions were also made for the previous two years.
