On February 1, 2024, the meeting on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s joining the Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA) was held in the premises of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) in Sarajevo. Along with the representatives of the CBBH, the representatives of the Ministry of Finance of the Republika Srpska, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Banking Agency of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Banking Agency of the Republika Srpska, the Association of Banks of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the European Commission, the World Bank and USAID were also present at the meeting. CBBH Governor Jasmina Selimović, Ph.D. addressed to the audience, stressing the importance of meeting the conditions for joining the SEPA and the interoperability of Bosnia and Herzegovina's payment systems with those in SEPA for payments in euro. She emphasized the full support of the CBBH in this process, underlining that the achieving of SEPA conditions will significantly benefit the economy, citizens, institutions, and the BH diaspora, through higher competitiveness, transparency and lower costs of processing cross-border payment transactions. Also, the meeting emphasized the importance of inter-institutional coordination of activities that follow the meeting of SEPA terms. The need for transposition was particularly highlighted, i.e. drafting and adopting the appropriate EU regulation, as an important priority for the relevant institutions in the coming period. The CBBH has expressed its commitment to continuous contribution to financial stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, maintaining stable and efficient existing payment systems. At the same time, the efforts of the CBBH in monitoring trends, modernization and application of best practices in the field of payment systems were emphasized, which will directly affect the efficient meeting the needs of the economy and citizens in the payment process.
