CBBH Governor Hosts Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany 2/5/2025 Tweet The Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), Jasmina Selimović, Ph.D. hosted the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Thomas Fitschen, Ph.D. During the meeting, the importance of a stable and reliable financial system for the economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina was discussed, as well as the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of finance and monetary policy. Special focus was placed on harmonizing the regulatory framework with European standards and the importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina's integration into SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area), which would enable faster, safer and more efficient payment transactions within the European Union and the wider economic space. The successful cooperation between the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Deutsche Bundesbank within the IPA regional project was also highlighted, through which support is provided in strengthening the capacities of financial institutions, modernizing payment systems and improving the regulatory framework in accordance with European Union standards. This cooperation significantly contributes to improving the financial infrastructure and strengthening the resilience of the BH economy to global challenges. The economic ties between the two countries were also particularly emphasized, with direct foreign investments from Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina last year amounting to KM 240 million, placing Germany in second place among the largest foreign investors in 2024. These data confirm the importance of Germany as a key economic partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while a stable financial system and further harmonization with the EU regulations open up new opportunities for additional investments. Ambassador Fitschen presented Germany's support for the reform processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the areas of financial stability, digitalization and European integration.
