5/11/2012

On May 11, the workshop entitled "The Impact of euro-crisis and investments opportunities in Bosnia and Herzegovina" was held at the St Antony's University in Oxford. The workshop addressed the issues related to the economy of BH while presenting the potentials to invest in BH with the contents divided in four sessions: "The status of BH in the EU accession process and regional cooperation", "The impact of the euro crisis on the financial stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, „Bosnia and Herzegovina and regional cooperation: potentials for a new development agenda" and „Regional cooperation between monetary authorities".

This was the highest level meeting, and it was featured with the representatives of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (the CBBH) led by the Governor, Kemal Kozarić, Ph.D., some of the most prominent names of the macroeconomic policy from the academia, the Director of the Research Department in the Central bank of Albania, Altin Tanku, four former and three current Governors of the Central Banks from the Region: Dejan Šoškić (National Bank of Serbia), Radoje Žugić (Central Bank of Montenegro), Dimitar Bogov (National Bank of Macedonia).

After the opening remarks of Mr. Othon Anastakis and Fikret Čaušević, the workshop was open by the introductory speech of H.E. Mustafa Mujezinović, the BH Ambassador to Great Britain and the Northern Ireland. In his speech the Ambassador Mujezinović pointed out that this event has been extremely important because it has offered different, much more positive image of Bosnia and Herzegovina than the one which is prevailing in media. The workshop addressed the details which are not often seen in the reports on Bosnia and Herzegovina, those illustrating the big capacities and potentials, favourable geostrategic position, skilled labour and the efforts made to improve the overall situation in the country.

H.E. Mujezinović informed the audience on the measures of the BH Council of Ministers, often unlikable, targeted towards the savings at all levels and to making easier the investments in BH, and the measures undertaken in order to remove the obstacles at our country's road towards the European integrations.

The Ambassador Mujezinović emphasised the special thanks to the CBBH, being the initiator and the creator of this important event. The organization of this and similar gatherings promoting and improving the BH economy is the clear sign on the CBBH thinking in advance, and therefore many other institutions can follow this example. He also emphasized the successful operations of BH and its leading positions in financial sector reforms.

The highlight of the workshop and the visit to the St Antony's University is signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the CBBH and South East European Studies at Oxford (SEESOX) at the St Antony's University in Oxford. The aim of this Memorandum is to foster the deeper understanding of the economic development in BH and the South East Europe and the analysis of the macroeconomic and financial challenges facing the regional countries. The signing of Memorandum provides for the CBBH access to higher level of knowledge and the cooperation with the top experts in the area of economy, which shall definitely result in further improvement of the CBBH operations and raising of those at the  higher level.

On behalf of the CBBH, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the CBBH Governor, Kemal Kozarić, Ph.D., and on behalf of St Antony's University by the Acting Dean Rosemary Foot.
